February 23: Presentation by Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum. Topic: Signature Precious Memories
February 24: Workshops by Joan Musick.
We are blessed to have Joan as a very active and talented member of our guild. She has been quilting since 1980 and has entered many quilt shows, won prizes and made more than 350 quilts. Joan has taught a variety of quilting classes over the years and published 3 children's books illustrated with her quilts. She sees her quilts as "hugs with fabric" as they are gifted, donated and sold!
Morning - Four Patch Posie Quilt Block $25 This was such a fun class last year that we are bringing it back by request. It was like being at a magic show to see everyone's fabric transformed into amazing block designs! The technique is a variation of stack and whack and you will need at least 1 1/2 yards of appropriate fabric print. Joan will be explaining this in the January and February meetings.
Afternoon - Free Motion Quilting on Domestic Machine - $25; or $40 for both classes. We have all admired Joan's beautiful quilting and amazing designs that she does on her home machine! Whether you are a first time beginner or already quilting on your domestic - Joan has something to offer to take your skills and confidence to the next level. In class, she will demonstrate layering and binding as well as creating a sampler of quilting designs.
March 22: Presentation by Jamie Newell on using Clothing Items for Memory Quilts
Jamie learned to sew at a very young age and has always been very prolific, making a variety of things for her kids and home over the years. Fifteen years ago she became inspired to learn quilting; watching every quilt video and tutorial she could. T-shirt quilts and memory quilts piqued her interest; seeing it as more than something to keep you warm, but also a keepsake, something to be cherished. The more she made, the more she saw how it touched people because it was made from items belonging to their loved ones and told the stories of their loved one's life. There are no words to explain that reward - "THAT is why I do what I do!"
March 23: Workshop by Jamie Newell - Making a T-Shirt quilt - $20
April 26: Presentation - Trunk Show by Susan Sears, certified instructor for Judy Niemeyer's paper piecing process.
Susan comes from a long line of seamstresses and quilters. Her quilt for a college project won a ribbon in the MN State Fair. She made quilted jackets and small projects in the 1990's and then began to teach various quilting classes in 2003. In 2008 she took her first Judy Niemeyer/Quiltworx class and became a certified instructor in 2015. The best reward is when students finish their quilt tops and tell her "I didn't think it would go together - BUT it did!"
April 27: Judy Niemeyer Pocket Compass Table Topper or Wall Hanging - approx $75, includes pattern
May: Social Luncheon - Joyce McGrath will join us to demonstrate for everyone to sew one of her Folding Fabrics blocks.
